Retrofit Canada Case Study Concludes our Annual Energy Savings is 101.7% →

August 13, 2025 Wendy Littlefield

Three years out, the house reno is worthy of attention. Retrofit Canada published this 2025 case study. The annual energy savings on the house is 101.7%. None too shabby!

As you may have concluded (if you have gotten this far into the blog) our Victoria chapter ended. In August 2022 a family emergency (thankfully resolved) brought us to Chicago - from where I write. Over the last three years, we have made many of the same systems upgrades to our Illinois house that we first undertook in Victoria. One of these days we may get around to chronicling that journey. We were helped in mapping out the plan by Oak Park architect Tom Bassett Dilley of TBDArchitects - a veteran of many beautiful Passivhaus retrofits including this one featured in Dwell. And so the journey to sustainability continues in another country, and a colder climate - in defiance of and as a rebuke to an administration hostile to green retrofits.

But, back in Victoria , Builder Taylor McCarthy and his team at Frontera Homes have gone on to do more great work on the island. Earlier in 2025 he & Tim Wilson at Retrofit Canada were in communication with me about a case study. Here is the first rate case study about our deep retrofit transformation. It lays the project aims and outcomes out clearly in text and charts. Thank you and hope you find it helpful.
